On the practice green, line up a ten-foot putt, place your putter behind the ball aimed down your intended line. Have a friend stand directly behind you as you set up for the putt. Let your friend come up and simply hold the putter in the position you had it. Get behind the line and observe where your putter face was aimed. Often you will find that your alignment is off and that you are making a correction in your stroke to compensate for it.
