The Eyes.

The eyes are important for putting if used correctly.  Usually there is too much eye movement since golfers can be excited about that birdie or that needed bogey.  They move the eyes quickly to see if the ball is going into the hole.  I’ve never lost a ball on the green so there is no need to look up.  Don’t look up for two seconds – listen for it to go in the hole.  The movement of the eyes (looking up to quick) makes you flinch and misdirects the club, thus missing the putt.  So listen for the ball to go in the hole.

Here is a test to see if the eyes are still enough:  Look at the ball during the putting stroke and if you see a dark spot where the ball was after the stroke then you have kept your eyes still.  It’s an optical elusion similar to looking at a light and then looking away.

So make sure you see the spot and listen to the ball go in the hole.  It’s a great sound!
