Hot Dogs

So hot dogs have protein so they should be a beneficial meal for you while playing golf, right?  Wrong.  Although they are often very convenient and readily accessible on the golf course, they are not a healthy option when picking your lunch time meal at the turn.

What exactly is the problem with hot dogs?  Well, the problems don’t come from the usual arguments against hot dogs.  It’s not the fact that you eat a bun with a hot dog or that you load it up with your favorite toppings.  Instead, the problem arises from the sugars that hot dogs contain.

Hot dogs quickly increase blood sugar.  Therefore, you’ll get a high for a while as the sugar permeates your body.  But soon after, your body will begin to produce insulin to combat the increased levels of blood sugar, and you will drop from your high.

At first glance, the hot dog seems to have a lot of things going for it.  It’s quick and easy; it has a lot of calories; and it has protein.  Unfortunately, the presence of quick dissolving sugars nullifies all of these advantages.
