Hands coming off the club?
Try the Wrap!
If your ball flight is inconsistent then the first thing you should
look at are your hands (grip) to see if they are coming off the
club, during your swing.
In my experience, I have found students don’t realize their hands
are coming off the club at the top of the back swing.
This comes from trying to swing bigger and /or having the
wrong pressure points while holding on to the club.
A trained eye can see this happening and can make you aware
of it. After finding the
problem, you need to correct it by gripping the golf club with
correct pressure points. Most
golfers hold onto the club using their first finger and thumbs
(pinching). This is great for a drummer but not a golfer.
This creates tension and can make you regrip the club. The
better grip is held with the last three fingers of each hand and
keeping the right hand connected to the left thumb (for right
handers). The best
training aid I’ve found to keep your hands on the club is called the
the grip wrap (see product on left).
It is an elastic strap that allows your hands to maintain a
constant grip pressure while keeping secure control of the club.
It’s useful for the player that regrips the club or their
hands come off the club at the top of the swing.
Another way of practicing keeping your hands on the club is
putting a coin between your left thumb and your right hand (again
for right handers). See
if you can keep the coin from falling out or you will become very
poor! The Grip Wrap
might be the best way to save money.
