The Par 3 Trick
Many short hitters struggle with par 4s and par 5s.
They play par 3s great, but the other holes are so long that the
short hitters get overwhelmed by the distance.
There is an easy fix to this problem that can actually benefit a
lot of golfers.
If, instead of thinking of the
par 4 as one unit, the golfer thought of it as two par 3s, the golfer
would be considerably less overwhelmed.
Basically, this means that when standing on the tee, the golfer
might find it useful to imagine a green at their intended landing area.
The object off the tee should be to get it on that imaginary
green. If the golfer is good
at par 3s, this objective shouldn’t be difficult at all.
Then, the golfer should play the rest of the hole like a par 3.
This technique works well with
par 5s too. Except instead
of two par 3s the golfer should imagine three par 3s.
The par 3 trick enables all players to begin to think
of golf as one shot at a time rather than lumps of shots together.
