Weatherwax Golf Course
Middletown, Ohio

If you are looking for a 36-hole public course in southern Ohio, Weatherwax Golf Course is the place for you.  This golf juggernaut is known for its blind shots, long par 4s, and flat par 3s.  Each nine has a character of its own.  Some are more challenging than others, but each offers its own set of trials for the golfer.

Woodside, as its name suggests, has the most woods of the four nines.  While this may not seem like much of a problem at first, it is after you realize that Weatherwax has very few marked hazards, meaning that every time you lose a ball in the heather or the woods, it counts as a lost ball.  The par 5s on Woodside are both reachable if you have the guts to ignore the woods and sand bunkers.  The par 4s, however, are all long and leave you with mid-irons to the green in most cases.

Meadows is the longest of the four courses.  While its open lay-out may make you think that its length isn’t much of a problem, you’ll soon realize that the links style lay-out means that your shots are more susceptible to wind.  Any kind of wind makes the already long par 4s on this side even longer.  Meadows has several blind shots because of strategic tee locations, making it even more difficult.

Valley View is the shortest and the easiest of the four.  Short-irons and wedges will be used for more approach shots here.  It is the most straight-forward of the courses and has few real problem areas.  A couple of strategically placed fairway bunkers do add to this side’s difficulty, however.

Highlands is the second longest nine.  Its challenge comes from its number of blind shots.  Almost ever par 4 has some kind of blind shot off of the tee, whether because of hills or dog-legs.  Fairway bunkers make this blindness a real problem since you actually have to know where to aim and place your tee-shots.  Fortunately, the many dog-legs on this side make the par 4s shorter than those of Meadows and Woodside.

Weatherwax is a great facility for more challenging play.  Its four nines offer a variety of styles of play, demanding creativity and style from the player.  To learn more, visit Weatherwax.
