Dayton Country Club
Oakwood, Ohio

One of Dayton’s finest private clubs, Dayton Country Club is a prestigious course.  Although only coming in at par 70 and less than 6500 yards, this short course offers plenty of interesting challenges.

Established in 1897, Dayton Country Club is the oldest private club in the Dayton area.  Its elegant clubhouse looks out beautifully over the course.  Unfortunately, not much of the course can be seen from this vantage point because of the many century-old trees that line the course’s fairways.  The winding dog-legs and high hills soon make you lose all sense of direction, and then you are just out on your own trying to play golf.

The front and back play almost identically with their hilly blind-shot format.  Caddies can be a huge help on this course.  If you don’t have one, don’t expect to shoot under par on your first time out.  Not only is the course filled with tricky blind shots, it also contains some of the hardest greens to read of any course.  The player must really look at all of the conditions that make a ball break, including the contour of the green, drainage, and surrounding landscape.
