Golfing With God by Roland
Merullo is an interesting take about what it means to be a championship
golfer.It articulates the
difficulties of the game and contrasts them against the reasons why
people fall in love with the game.
The narration starts off slowly
as narrator and main character Herman Fins-Winston explains his current
situation and a bit of his background. However, when Herman finally starts “golfing with God”, the book
takes off.Any golfer can
relate with Herman’s trials and victories.Merullo is strongest when Herman is on the golf course, and the
book becomes very enjoyable.
What sets
Golfing apart from other golf
novels is its ability to really focus on the game.Merullo doesn’t try to overload the reader with parallels between
golf and life, but rather describes a man on a journey to become a great
golfer.
