Golf in the Kingdom by Michael
Murphy is an extremely eye-opening read.Dealing not so much with golf as with the deep musings of any
great philosopher, this book is almost a real
Bagger Vance. The first half of the book is the narration of Mr. Murphy’s time
spent at a Scotland
golf club with a local golf teacher named Shivas Irons. The second
half consists of notes Mr. Murphy took from Shivas’s journal.
While the philosophies and the
musings of the book may seem a little extraordinary and extravagant, it
has a lot of important lessons to teach. One lesson is to not fight the golf course or life itself.Another is to be good to your fellow players or your neighbors. This book also explores the symbols of golf – the ball, the hole,
the divot – and tries to explain what they mean.Additionally, for the believer, this book can change the way you
play golf.The parts about
energy and true gravity have changed the way I play and concentrate over
the golf ball and have helped my ball striking considerably.
